About The Voice
I’m Krystal — a mother, a writer, and a woman learning how to stay present through hard seasons. Holding the Reins is where I put words to what it feels like to keep going, to stay rooted, and to tell the truth without softening it. The chapters of my life have been blessed, messy, heartbreaking, & joyful-sometimes all at once. This space exists because silence didn’t help. Holding the Reins is a collection of lived essays drawn from illness, loss, motherhood, burnout, and recovery — written while life is still being lived.
I have always been drawn to writing as a cathartic exercise, one that allows me to process difficult emotions and cultivate resilience.
A recent Stage 3 Rectal Cancer diagnosis has me fighting for my life in the most tumultuous chapter yet. I am drawn back to the canvas of writing to find strength, connection, and respite from an onslaught of raw emotions.
For the first time, I find myself called to share my stories, hoping that some part of my human experience resonates with you or someone you love. Life can be as cruel and unpredictable as it can be wonderful, but regardless of the chapter of life you are in, I hope my words remind you that you are not alone.
Thank you for being here.
